  • Dallas Observer, Best Raw Deal, 2004
    • On Fridays, Blue Fish makes a startlingly generous offer: $1 draft beers and sake. Our man goes for the rice wine (a taste to which we have never grown accustomed), but we go for a frosty pint (or three) of Kirin Ichiban--a crisp Japanese pilsner that has become one of our favorite drafts in the city. It goes perfectly with Blue Fish's excellent sushi, which runs from the traditional to the fusion-eclectic. And though we are huge fans of the salmon sashimi, we appreciate the fact that Blue Fish offers cooked dishes for those customers who feel less comfortable with, you know, raw flesh. Of course, we always encourage newbies to relax and have a few drinks before they dive in. At $1 a pop, we could stay there all night (and sometimes do).

    • We hear that one of our staff has had a bad waitstaff experience here. Not saying that isn't possible, just saying that we've never experienced anything except top-notch attention and care from the folks at Blue Fish. The sushi here is fresh and huge--it's often hard to put it all in your mouth. (Stop it.) The specials are rich and original (the crab bake over California rolls is not for the weak of stomach). If you're a Blue Fish virgin, you'll need to know these two alcohol facts: They have an outstanding cold sake selection, and Wednesdays offer $1 Blue martinis. Chop chop.
  • AOL City's Best Sushi
    • For a Japanese restaurant, Blue Fish is unusually loud -- in decor and often in volume. Every person at every table is pretty, trendy and immaculately dressed (the waitstaff is pretty cute, too), and the whole joint has a decidedly Los Angeles flavor to it. Whether you like that kind of scene or not, fans of Japanese food have have a hard time resisting this perennial hot spot. Along with perfectly turned out sushi and sashimi basics, Blue Fish serves up an assortment of funky, unusual rolls, wonderful yakatori and other Pan-Asian offerings. Select from an extensive sake list, printed up wine-list style, or order up a classic cocktail. Either way, you run the risk of singing loud and boisterous songs by the time the night is over. Not that such a thing ever really happens at Blue Fish -- those people are way too cool to get snookered.
